AUS Wineglass Bay (Tasmania)

Paradise beach

A road trip along the Tasmanian East Coast to the famous Freycinet National Park. We trekked across the jagged peaks of the Hazards for a spectacular view over Wineglass Bay, where dusky pink mountains, blue-green sea and white sand meet.
Fully prepared with a bottle of red wine we have enjoyed thoroughly the long trip to Wineglass Bay. A quick bath in the freezing sea, combined with a sprint back uphill to see the sunset on the other side of the mountains, has then prepared us for the night drive back home.

AUS Bruny Island (Tasmania)

The island in the island

For our last week-end on Tasmania, we decided to do some road tripping. Nick flew in from Sydney to join us for some sunny days cruising around. Our first day trip took us to Bruny Island.

Bruny Island is an island off the south-eastern coast of Tasmania. Geologically, Bruny Island is actually two land masses - North Bruny and South Bruny - That are joined by a long, narrow sandy “neck”.

Apart from the stunning nature, I was more than happy to spot a little baby penguin. I didn't dare to take any picture, because he was happily asleep in his little den. It was quite a challenge to drive back to the ferry and not hit an animal. They all come hopping on the street when the sun has set, amongst them wallabies, quolls and opossums.

Fun car. Ready to roll!

AUS Dover II (Tasmania)

Farmwork (more or less)

Every day starts out with a mesmerising sunrise over the river valley on our 50 min drive from Huonville to Dover. The drive to Dover and back, in the heated hostel van, is definitely one of the highlights during these cold autumn days.

After 3 weeks of monotonic apple picking it is getting harder to keep focused and motivated. The animals on the farm are a welcome excuse to take a break every now and then. I must admit that the farmer's family has to take Benzin, the farm dog, inside the house every couple of days, because he distracts me too much from work. I may spend a little too much time hanging out and playing with the dog, but I can't help it.
