AUS Whitsundays

Welcome to Whitehaven

After a brief stop in Airlie Beach and some preparations for our trip, we took a water taxi from Shute Harbour to Whitehaven Beach on the Whitsunday Island. It felt like waking up from a dream after these 2 days in a heavenly paradise. The pictures say it all: crystal clear water farming a dazzling white beach in the sunshine and a komodo dragon as our host.

Camping there allowed us to see the beach without any tourists from the tours during the day and to enjoy the beach almost to ourselves. We could see some sting rays while snorkeling around and hiked up to a little hill to enjoy the view on the lovely beach.

AUS Cape Tribulation

Back down South

A little bit unlucky with the weather, we made our way through the Daintree rainforest to the beach of Cape Tribulation. Hereby reaching the most northern point on our trip, we continued our road trip back down South.

Eventough, the weather wasn't on our side, the stroke of luck continued regarding the wildlife. On the way to the ferry, taking us over the Daintree River, we spotted a family of Cassoways along the road.

The sky cleared up further South, just in time to take a quick look around in the very posh town of Port Douglas. Back on the road, driving along the coast towards Palm Cove, we discovered a little beach to build stone stacks. A warm remider of my family in Norway, where I built one of these on the arctic circle.

After taking a quick dip into the sea at Palm Cove we drove past Trinity Beach and away from the coast into the mountain ranges of Murray Falls. The rainy overnight stop at the Murray Falls campground was overshadowed by impatience for the next day's drive to the Whitsundays.
